Opponents ‘Out-fox-ed’
Newry Celtic U-16’s 1
Dungannon U-16’s 5
On Saturday, Dungannon U-16’s played Newry Celtic in the league at Kernan Playing Fields, Portadown.
The boys started off well and immediately put Newry under pressure, Lavery hitting the bar within the first few minutes.
Dungannon took the lead after 5 minutes and what a goal it was. The Newry defence cleared a corner to the edge of the box and Fox unleashed a left foot volley into the corner of the net past a static keeper.
Newry upped their game after this and were unlucky not to equalise, their forward shooting wide when well placed, Goodfellow also making a good save when faced with a one on one.
Dungannon also continued to create further chances but could not score that elusive second goal. With 5 minutes of the half remaining, the boys did go 2 up. Lavery’s well placed shot came off the post and Fox finished from close range.
It was all Dungannon in the second half. McElroy was creating havoc up front and he scored the third midway through the half, finishing well from the edge of the box after a good run.
5 minutes later it was 4-0. McKenna found Lavery on the right, he easily turned his marker, raced towards the box and finished neatly in the corner from 15 yards.
Soon it was 5-0. A brilliant through ball from Kelly found Lavery one on one with the keeper and he coolly slotted home.
The boys took their foot off the pedal and allowed Newry in for a late consolation.
An excellent all round display by everyone and a further 3 points in the bag.
This Saturday the boys have an away league game against Windmill.
