Donegal Celtic U-16’s 2

Dungannon U-16’s 4

On Saturday 18th April, Dungannon U-16’s played Donegal Celtic at Gordon Playing Fields, Lurgan.

This was an important match as the result counted towards both the league and the quarter final of the knock out cup.

It was Donegal Celtic who started off better, creating 2 early chances, one shot just off target and another hitting the top of the bar.

These let-offs spurred on the Dungannon side and they took the lead on 8 minutes. Lavery latched onto an excellent through ball from Mayse and he lobbed the keeper from just outside the box.

5 minutes later it was 2-0. Lavery’s pace found him one on one with the keeper and he finished expertly from 12 yards.

Dungannon created further chances but did not capitalise, Wallace and Fox both shooting wide when well placed.

At half time the boys lead 2-0.

Donegal Celtic came out fired up for the second half and caught the Dungannon defence cold on 2 occasions to draw level within the first 10 minutes.

The boys needed to strike back straight away and they were awarded a penalty when Fox was brought down. McCammon finished neatly from the spot to restore the advantage.

Donegal Celtic continued to press for the equaliser but the defence stood firm. Ideally the boys needed another goal to provide comfort and this duly arrived with 5 minutes remaining.

McKenna played a well weighted ball over the top to Lavery who chipped the keeper from 20 yards to seal a well deserved victory. Final score 4-2.
