DUY under 11’s Vs Glenavon

Dungannon United Youth Under 11’s met with Glenavon for the second time in this Mid Ulster League Season.

In order for DUY to have a chance in contending for the top of the table they had to maintain their winning streak and play their usual high standard of football.

Today’s match took place at Dungannon Park in front of the ever growing under 11’s supporters.

DUY weren’t long in scoring that early goal thanks to Paul Donnelly who eased his ball passed the Glenavon goal keeper to put our under 11’s 1 -0 up.

Dungannon again had much of the possession throughout the match even though Glenavon had a few attempts on goal. Dungannon United Youth’s Goalkeeper Gavin Corr handled any potential threats brilliantly and is more confident as each match goes by.

In another high scoring game for DUY, goals were also scored by: Adam Patterson, Shea Gordon, Paul Donaghy, Daniel Kerr and Oran Mallon.

Man of the match wasn’t easily decided. Paul Donaghy, Paul Donnelly and Naoise Martin were all mentioned by the coaches although the final decision was left to be made by Mike Kenny (referee) He decided that today’s Man of the Match should go to Naoise Martin. Congratulations!

Well done to the DUY under 11’s for yet another good display of football.

Here is wishing the Managers and players all the luck in the world for next weeks NI Cup Match which is against SOPYC. This match will be a tough one, but we know that you can do it!

DUY Under 11’s meet Armagh City in Mid Ulster Youth League

A large crowd of supporters turned out this morning at the Junior Stadium to watch Dungannon United Youth Under 11’s take on Armagh City in one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the season.

The game started as so many this season with Dungannon United Youth putting the visiting team under pressure right from the start. Armagh City defended well, not allowing some of players to settle on the ball which upset their normal style of football.

Nerves obviously played a factor and an early goal was needed to ease them. It took its time coming but when it did it was worth the wait. Daniel Kerr once again showed his outstanding striking ability with a well taken goal. Although much of the pressure was put on by the Dungannon side, the half time whistle blew with no further goals being scored in that half. The Armagh goalkeeper had a big part to play in this, denying Shea Gordan what looked to be a certain goal with a fantastic save!

The second half started promisingly with Dungannon retaining much of the possession. Shea Gordan extended the lead with a brilliant 20 yard shot which sailed into the top of the net. Although 2 - 0 down, Armagh did not drop their heads and increased the pressure on DUY putting their defenders to the test. Naoise Martin made a critical goal line clearance much to the relief of his team mates. Shortly afterwards the same player made the Armagh keeper pull off one of the saves of the season when he fisted clear a shot destined for the top left hand corner.

Odhran Mallon came on as substitute and scored a controversal third goal (was he or wasn’t he offside? Now that is the question!) The referee stood firm against some strong objections from the Armagh camp and Dungannon went into a 3 - 0 lead with only minutes left on the clock!

Dalaigh Jones led his team by example with one of his best performances of the season. Never shying out of a tackle and chasing every ball! Paul Donaghy was solid in defence with Daniel Kerr and Connor Murtagh also putting in excellent performances.

Man of the Match was awarded to Shea Gordan for another outstanding display of football. Well done Shea!!

The only yellow card of the match was shown to one of the Armagh coaches for dissent.

Keep up the good work DUY for the rest of the season!

U’11’s Progress in N.I. Cup

Northern Ireland Cup Match - Dungannon United Youth vs Templepatrick Alexandra 14/02/09

It’s been a long time coming, but finally Dungannon United Youth Under 11’s made the journey up the motorway to meet Templepatrick Alexandra in the 2nd round of the Northern Ireland Cup.

The pitch conditions were heavy to say the least and that made it a very difficult surface to play free flowing football on, but Dungannon managed to maintain a large amount of possession putting Templepatrick under pressure from the first kick of the ball.

Templepatrick defended very well in the first half. Dungannon however managed to come off at the half time whistle with a slender 2 goal lead thanks to Daniel Kerr’s fantastic finishing on both ocassions. Although this scoreline wasnt representative of the amount of possession our team had.

The DUY under 11’s came out fighting in the second half (must have been some team talk Tony & Steven!!!) with Daniel Kerr completing his hat trick. Further goals were scored by Paul Donnelly, who also scored a hat trick, Shea Gordan with 2 and singular goals from both Jordan Hazelton and Adam Patterson.

Dungannon United Youth’s superior fitness and skill showed in the second half and the limited attacks made were soon dealt with by the teams solid defence.

Man of the Match was a hard decision for Tony Courtney to make as he stated both Shea Gordan and Naoise Martin played some excellent football but due to the quality of his goals it had to go to Daniel Kerr today.

In the absence of Manager Joe McAree, Tony Courtney did a fantastic job, assisted ably by Steven Patterson.

Many thanks goes to Templepatrick Alexandra for their hospitality after the game. Refreshments were laid on for the team, management and travelling supporters.

Keep up the good work boys and continue this work rate and good play throughout both the league and the cup!!

Dankas
