DUY U11’s close to title

DUY U11’s                             5

WARRENPOINT                   0

DUY U11’s played at Dungannon Park on Saturday against Warrenpoint for the first time this season in the Mid Ulster League. The match opened with both teams eager for the victory and plenty of strong tackling in midfield and defence as the teams took the game to opposition. The opening score came when a quick free kick by Robbie Brown released Arnas Irzikevilius down the left and he ran on and finished in style. Arnas continued to cause more problems for Warrenpoint with another wicked cross just missed by Dylan O’Hagan at the back post. On the other wing Jack Madden started to come into action and after a some great work in midfield by Oran Mallon Jack broke quickly and crossed to the back post for Arnas to make it 2-0. Warrenpoint came roaring back but Joel Little and Daniel Courtney were quick on hand to smother any trouble. Just before the half the goal to settle the team came Adam Patterson played the ball over the top and Jack Madden raced on to finish. Half-Time 3-0.

The second half started with Tyler Blair , Matthew Gibson and Cameron McMullan coming into the action and Cameron soon got into the game quickly with his rasping shot just over the bar. DUY were now dominating and attacking from all angles and the next goal wasn’t far away a corner from the left bounced in the box and Adam Patterson was on hand to blast the ball home. Warrenpoint attacked well and had a great chance to pull one back but Josh (the cat) Willis was quick to pounce on the loose ball. Next into the action was Tyler Blair his quick shot and turn hit the post but Tylers next ball was a brilliant chip from midfield over the centre half which Adam Patterson ran onto and lobbed the keeper to make it 5-0. At this stage it looked like we were in for more goals but Warrenpoint stood firm and the goalkeeper pulled of some great saves to keep the score down. Arnas had a chance for his hat-trick but was unlucky to hit the bar and with a few minutes remaining Jack Madden also hit the bar. The final whistle blew with a 5-0 scoreline. Warrenpoint battled hard with some great encouragement from the coaches and supporters. DUY played well on the day with Joel Little not putting a foot wrong at the back. This leaves DUY within touch of the title one more point from the remaining three games will wrap up the title.
